I want to compare the well being of children with Single parents to married parents by examing childcare, the use of it, the availability of it, the need for it to increase income, etc.

The availability and affordability of childcare tends to foster detachment from a child, no matter the marital status of the biological parents.
You should check out the book “Freakonomics” in it there is a section about parenting and statistics, it is very fascinating and you can find some good ideas for expounding on your subject, I bet.
